19 February 2012: Birthday Blaze
On a dark February evening he will appear from behind the columns and conjure up a fire-filled spectacle. It will be a birthday like no other with enchantment, brilliance, feasting and mischief…
We are delighted to have been commissioned by Newcastle Theatre Royal to create 4 days of pyrotechnic performance (16th – 19th February) to celebrate this iconic theatre’s 175th birthday.
Produced by Pinwheel, the Birthday Blaze will start – on Thursday & Friday – by bringing the outside of the theatre alive each hour with light, sound and pyrotechnics.
On Saturday & Sunday, Grey Street will be transformed with flames and fiery performance. Phantoms of fiction will be the hosts for this dazzling masquerade, familiar characters from the theatre’s history: the starcrossed lovers, the sisters of fate, the forlorn belle of the ball, a band of thieves, Old Nick and Lady Grey. Prepare to be spellbound as they draw you into their starlit world.
All events are FREE and take place outside the Theatre Royal on Grey Street. No tickets required, just turn up and enjoy! For more information, click here.

Mandy Dike is designing a fiery installation to accompany an ensemble of horns and a community chorus for the 12 minute performance.
Fire will be performed in Salisbury on 26th May, Brighton 27th May, Spitalfields Market, London 23rd June and Southbank, London 14th July.
